The state of Ohio offers you three different ways to file for Unemployment Insurance compensation in Ohio. The first and probably the easier one will be to visit the Ohio Unemployment Web site, which is located at the online unemployment office. You will need to have your social security number, along with the dates which you worked, the company name and address and your drivers license number or state identification card number to input into the online filing system.

Filing online is far more easily accomplished than attending to the filing at the office of unemployment, as there are no lines, no need to leave home and no waiting or traveling.
You are encouraged to file for your unemployment compensation as soon as you are legally permitted. The state of Ohio does utilize a waiting week, so once you have filed for your unemployment compensation there will be one week which you are required to wait until you are eligible for a check.  What this means is that filing as soon as possible after being released from work is important in order to get your unemployment compensation moving as quickly as possible.

Waiting an extra week after being released from work simply means that your checks will take that much longer to arrive and some of the days which you might have gotten paid for will not be paid to you, since unemployment compensation begins only after you file and is not retroactive to take in days that you were laid off before you filed for your unemployment.
